Hilda Cardona was appointed to the HPS Network Board of Directors at the HPS Conference held in Uniondale, NY in March. Cardona was invited to join the board by a unanimous decision of the board.
Cardona has been involved with the HPS Network for more than a decade. While at the NIH, Hilda spent many years working with some of the first patients that were part of the natural history study as well as those that were a part of the phase II clinical trial of Pirfenidone. Since retiring from the NIH, Cardona has remained active in the HPS community and probably works as many hours now as she ever did when she was a full-time NIH employee. Today she is a special volunteer at the NIH. She has worked tirelessly using her vacation time traveling in Puerto Rico to help get the word out about HPS and the treatment protocols available. She’s also been a tremendous help with outreach projects in Orlando and elsewhere.
