Vergne recognized for work on Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome

Yeidyly Vergne, a board member of HPS Network Puerto Rico, was recently honored by the Senate of Puerto Rico with the Value of the Year Health Award, Senate Resolution 806. She was one of 30 medical professionals and advocates to receive the honor. The award is given for work that improves the quality of life and health for communities. Vergne was recognized for her work both as a patient advocate for those with HPS in her role with the HPS Network, and for her academic work studying HPS.

The award stated: “To recognize and sincerely congratulate Miss Yeidyly Vergne, Ponce School of Medicine doctorate student, for her perseverance exemplary dedication and support towards the Hermasnky-Pudlak Syndrome Network in Puerto Rico.”

Vergne is in the second year of her doctoral program in the Public Health department studying Epidemiology. She plans to do her doctorial thesis on HPS in Puerto Rico, its prevalence and the need for public health policies to better serve those with HPS.

The award gave Vergne the opportunity to speak to the assembled crowd about HPS and the need for increased awareness and research.
