The HPS Network held an open meeting for the community Feb. 24 at HOSTOS Community College in the Bronx. Students and professors from the college’s allied health programs were invited, as well as various stake holders from the Puerto Rican community.
The meeting was an open-door, come-as-you-can event held between 9:00 am and 11:00 am in the morning. The Network served doughnuts and coffee to interested visitors, distributed HPS brochures, and Donna Appell lectured about HPS as groups of students came and went. She recruited students and professors alike to help the HPS Network in our Hundred People Search to identify, diagnose and help those with HPS who might not be aware of the syndrome.
Brenda Lopez arranged the event, distributed flyers and acted as a liaison between the Network and the college. Leticia Colonio, Ashley Appell and Heather Kirkwood were also on hand to help meet with interested visitors and tell the HPS story.
The film crew from the Stanford Center for Bioethics (who have followed the HPS Network for the past three years) were also at the event filming.
Donna Appell has already received an invitation to return to the college and lecture to more students at HOSTOS Community College.
