Heather Kirkwood

Heather Kirkwood was diagnosed with HPS at 29, and pulmonary fibrosis at 33. She is a freelance journalist, writer, artist, and Chairperson of the HPS Network Board of Directors. Her story is one of those featured in the documentary RARE. Heather has been a part of the HPS Network for more than 20 years. She received a lung transplant in 2018 and now advocates for organ donation programs as well as her work with the HPS Network. Heather worked for many years as Senior Editor of EXPO Magazine, a magazine for trade show planners. She has also reported for publications such as the Kansas City Business Journal, and the South China Morning Post as well as trade publications such as Firstline, a magazine for veterinary technicians, and Golf Course Management magazine. Heather graduated with the highest honors from the University of Kansas School of Journalism.
