What is a transplant team?

Your transplant team might include:

  • Pulmonologist
  • Psychiatrist
  • Thoracic Surgeon
  • Social Worker
  • Cardiologist
  • Hematologist
  • Endocrinologist
  • Infectious Disease Specialist
  • Immunologist
  • Critical Care Specialist
  • Thoracic nurse
  • Nutritionist
  • Transplant nurses
  • Financial Representative
  • Physical therapy
  • Transplant Coordinator

The Transplant team will work with you to make your transplant as successful as possible. It is important that you know the people on your team and what they will be doing to help you through your transplant. Don’t be shy about asking them questions and get to know them well. Each team member is an expert in a different area of transplantation.

Remember, you are part of the team because you know your body best. Before the transplant takes place, you will be called a “transplant candidate.”  After the transplant operation, you will be called a “transplant recipient.”

Keep a record of everyone on your transplant team, and how to reach them if you need them.
